چکیده

In this paper, a nontrivial uncorrelated phase noise analysis is proposed for frequency synthesizer of a passive millimeter-wave Synthetic Aperture Interferometric Radiometer (SAIR) imager named BHU2D-U designed for concealed weapon detections on human bodies with high imaging rates. This synthesizer provides local oscillators both for millimeter-wave front-ends and intermediate frequency IQ demodulators for the receivers. The influence of synthesizer uncorrelated phase noise in different offset frequency ranges on the visibility phase errors have been systematically investigated with phase noise mismatch requirements drawn. Integrated RMS phase error has been applied to establish uncorrelated phase noise requirements for visibility error control. Measurement results have proved that uncorrelated phase noise does exist among synthesizer output pairs, and the previously defined requirements are achieved with imaging results proposed. In conclusion, the uncorrelated phase noise effects on SAIR visibility errors have been concretized to phase noise design requirements, which have been realized by synthesizer design.

A-New-Closed-form-Mathematical-Approach-to-Achieve Minimum Phase Noise in Frequency Synthesizers

The aim of this paper is to minimize output phase noise for the pure signal synthesis in the frequency synthesizers. For this purpose, first, an exact mathematical model of phase locked loop (PLL) based frequency synthesizer is described and analyzed. Then, an exact closed-form formula in terms of synthesizer bandwidth and total output phase noise is extracted. Based on this formula, the phase ...

Advanced MMIC Receiver for 94-GHz Band Passive Millimeter-Wave Imager

In this paper, we present the development of an advanced MMIC receiver for a 94-GHz band passive millimeter-wave (PMMW) imager. Our configuration is based on a Dicke receiver in order to reduce fluctuations in the detected voltage. By introducing an electronic switch in the MMIC, we achieved a high resolution millimeter-wave image in a shorter image collection time compared to that with a conve...

On the Coherent Phase Noise of Millimeter - Wave Doppler Radar

The phase noise is a very important index to wireless system, especially in millimeter-wave continuous wave radar systems. The phase noise of the signal, which is firstly leaked from transmitter and then mixed to intermediate frequency band by the local oscillator (Tx-IF), will worsen the sensitivity of superheterodyne radar system used for Doppler velocity detection. In this paper, the coheren...
